How Much Can I Make Selling Medicare?
The sky's the limit!  Because of lifetime residual commissions, you can build a huge book of business over the course of a few years.  On average, you can estimate about $25 per person, per month on Supplement Plans and Second year Advantage Plans.  First year Advantage Plans pays you upfront for the entire year $600 (prorated by month they sign up).​

ADVANTAGE PART C PLAN COMMISSIONS
You earn approximately $600 for all sales if the client has never been on a Medicare Advantage Plan before. This covers the first 12 months and is prorated based on when they start coverage. In the second year, you are paid 1/2 of the first year, or $300.  You are paid this residual for the lifetime of the client, as long as they remain with you as their broker. That means if you sign up a 65 year old you get $600 + $300 for each year they continue on the plan.  If your client lives to be 90, that's 25 years of commission, or approximately $7,800 over the lifetime of that client.

SUPPLEMENT PLAN COMMISSIONS
You earn approximately 20% of the monthly premium. That's about $300 per year in the first six to seven years (% varies by company). Payment on years 8+ vary, typically 1% to 3%. While commissions typically drop off in year 7 or 8, your client can move to a different company or different plan altogether to reset (restart) the typical 6 to 7 year commission payout.  Supplements often are "bundled" with a Medicare prescription drug plan (PDP) and many add on Dental insurance as well.

RX DRUG PLAN COMMISSIONS
You earn approximately $100 for all "new to Medicare" sales and $50 for everyone else (who's had Medicare previously, but are asking you to change their plan).

​How Much Do Medicare Plans Cost The Client?

This varies greatly by State, and even by county.  From as little as $0 Premium to as much as $200 per month depending on the product. 

The average retail premium for Medicare Supplements is $150 per month for a 65 year old non-smoker.

The average retail premium for Medicare Prescription Drug plans is $30 per month.  Many are less than $20.  You are paid a flat rate when you sell an Rx Plan, so the price doesn't matter.

The average retail premium for Medicare Advantage plans is $20 per month with the majority of plans having a $0 premium cost.  You are paid a flat rate when you sell an Rx Plan, so the price doesn't matter.
